With a growing world-wide aging population and a rising number of people living with dementia, the question is how to manage our healthcare systems on a limited budget, while still providing the best possible care to this vulnerable group of citizens?
What the Netherlands has to offer
The Netherlands is well known for its innovative approach to dementia care, so once again our focus will be on talking to experts and visiting facilities, and other supportive organisations that will encourage participants to think 'outside the box'.
We will visit
★ A traditional aged care facility
★ The ‘Herbergier’ Den Haag (innovative inner city dementia care facility)
★ Several dementia care researchers and other experts
★ Tao of Care (Social Approach Dementia)
★ The Dementia Green Care farms “Buitengewoon” and “Zorgerf”
★ A healthcare insurance company

Itinerary
Here is an outline of the itinerary for the six days (subject to change):
When and where
The tour will start Sunday evening the 6th of April until Friday the 11th of April 2025. During the week we will stay in Delft at the comfortable Westcord Hotel, next to Ikea.
Your host
Healthcare Study Tours to the Netherlands are hosted by Jan and Marian Weststrate. Marian will host the 2025 Tour.
Marian is a district nurse on the Kapiti Coast and Jan is a healthcare consultant (PhD) who specialises in analysing, reporting and advising on quality-of-care data in New Zealand. Both have over 40 years’ healthcare experience and worked in The Netherlands, the UK and New Zealand. They have been involved in various cross-cultural exchanges at a personal and professional level and experienced at first-hand how these visits can inspire you to make the impossible possible. Currently they started Home4All. The first green care farm model in New Zealand, for day visitors in their own home, based on the Dutch models.
Your investment
The price for the Healthcare Study Tour is NZ $12,000.00 (excl. GST). This includes:
★ Six nights staying at the Westcord hotel in Delft
★ All lunches included except for Wednesday
★ Costs for visits and presenters
★ 24/7 hosting by Home4All staff
The price does not include flights to and from the Netherlands
